Palmerston Library & Eva's Original Chimneys

I went to Palmerston Library and Eva’s Original Chimneys. They were both a five-minute walk from Bathurst Station, but in opposite directions. Palmerston Library is to the west, Eva’s Original Chimneys to the east.

First, I went to Palmerston Library, which is very small and disappointing. It only had ten shelves of books, no best bets, and few places to sit.

Library shelf with "Local History" sign, books, and a $2 gift bag. Green wall background, prizes box, and colorful items on top.

It is only open either from 10-6 or 12:30-8:30. Bigger libraries such as Barbara Frum are open 9:00-8:30 most days.

Library book display with Toronto-themed books on an orange or red shelf, sign reads "read toronto," surrounded by rows of bookshelves.
Bookshelf with Korean books in a library. Sign reads "Korean" in Korean and English. Beige wall and colorful carpet in the background.
This is the entire Korean section.

The ramp was very steep and very narrow. My wheelchair could barely fit.

After I went to Palmerston Library, I went on a ten-minute walk to Eva’s Original Chimneys. I started the walk in Koreatown, and I ended in the Annex.

Street in Koreatown with a blue and red decorated pole. Buildings and cars line the street. Text reads "KOREA TOWN" and "KoreaTown BIA."
Street scene with a pole reading "BLOOR ANNEX," bike parked nearby, tree-lined sidewalk, buildings, and passing traffic on a cloudy day.

On the way, I saw Snakes & Lattes and the Hot Docs Theatre.

Storefront with the sign "Snakes & Lattes Annex." Glass door shows board game images. A large blue Connect Four is inside. Address number 602 visible.
Street view of a cinema with a vertical sign saying "HOT DOCS TED ROGERS CINEMA." People walk along a bustling sidewalk. Cloudy sky.

Eventually, I arrived at Eva’s Original Chimneys.

Storefront with signs for "Eva's Original" selling chimney cakes and ice cream. Window displays menu and vegan options. Door shows address 454.
A colorful mural depicting a cutaway view of a lively apartment with various people and activities. Wooden tables and chairs in the foreground.

I ordered the Apple Pie Cone. It was amazing! The ice cream had a good texture. It also had pieces of apple pie filling, caramel, and oats. The cone was made out of a cinnamon chimney cake, which tasted like a flaky doughnut.

Hand holding a churro ice cream cone with caramel drizzle next to the book "Bright" by Jessica Jung on a wooden table in a cafe.

Overall, I found both places pretty accessible, but they had problems. Palmerston Library had a terrible ramp to get in, and Eva’s original Chimneys was a little bit better, but it was tricky to get in.
